Chapter 10
Miranda lay in the bushes about six hundred yards off from the estate of the Grand Duchess Elizabeth McCormick. A castle-like structure appearing to be from ancient history jutted out of the center of the land. The driveway, formed from a pale, crushed rock, measured at least a mile long. Miranda read there were at least one-hundred fifty acres with this plot of land. Most of that was undeveloped green space.
Miranda watched the ground for activity through her new high-powered binoculars. The magnification was excellent, and it felt like she was standing right down there in the driveway. She marveled at how technology improved over the last ten years. If she had even half of the gadgets available to her now when she was an operative, she may have agreed to do more assassination jobs.
For three hours, Miranda saw no one coming or going from the estate even though it was nearly 10 AM. Finally, a door opening caught her attention. A redheaded woman dressed in a tee shirt and jeans exited the house. Miranda raised her brow. Would a duchess wear such a plain outfit? Miranda watched as the woman got into the back of a black town car. The car moved down the long driveway, picking up speed as it neared the end of the drive. Miranda stood up and hopped onto the motorcycle she had parked nearby. Starting the bike up, Miranda sped away from the house so she could turn around and be coming down the road by the time the car reached the end of the driveway. This way she would seem like normal traffic and be able to fall in behind the car without causing too much suspicion.
Miranda could see the nose of the car passing through the gates on the driveway. She slowed down to allow the car to pull out in front of her. Lucky for her, the car turned in the same direction she was already heading. Now all Miranda had to do was keep a low profile and figure out where this supposed Duchess was going.
The black car sped down the curvy back road. A sign with the words Old Kinsale pointing straight ahead came into sight. The car slowed at an intersection, turning left into a parking lot. The driver pulled into a space before exiting the car to move around back and opening the passenger door.
Miranda stopped at the intersection and turned right. Tapping the GPS in the bike's cluster, Miranda pushed a P symbol to find alternative parking. The GPS lit up and showed her a parking area on the other side of a building up ahead. The lot was not far away from the other parking, but far enough away it didn't look like she was following this woman and her driver. Miranda entered the lot and parked her bike before walking out back towards the road to locate her target. Lucky for her, the woman's red hair made it easy for Miranda to spot her.
